Although Wild Boar (Sus scrofa) became extinct in Ireland in prehistoric times, in 2009 they were recorded in many locations. A 180kg boar was shot near a school playground in south County Tipperary and sows, boars and piglets were seen in Counties Kilkenny and Wicklow.
