		<description><![CDATA[New data has been added to Biodiversity Maps at the end of February 2010. 
The following new database has been added:
The Mosquitoes of Ireland.    This contains 253  records of 18 species of mosquitoe recorded in Ireland between 1823 and 1991.

		<title>Data Centre to the forefront in building global data network</title>

The National Biodiversity Data Centre is pleased to announce that it is one of nine data centres worldwide who have been awarded grants by the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) for development work to assist the automatic flow of data between the Data Centre and GBIF network.

		<title>Wild Boar in Ireland</title>
		<description><![CDATA[Although Wild Boar (Sus scrofa) became extinct in Ireland in prehistoric times, in 2009 they were recorded in many locations. A 180kg boar was shot near a school playground in south County Tipperary and sows, boars and piglets were seen in Counties Kilkenny and Wicklow.

		<title>Second invader identified from the River Dodder</title>
		<description><![CDATA[Two individuals of Chelydra serpentina (Common Snapper) were pictured in July 2008. The pictures sent to the Data Centre this November were officially identified by Prof. J. Davenport in University College Cork. This species is hardier than the Yellow-bellied Slider which makes more likely to survive. They also bite so watch out!

		<title>Invader identified!</title>
		<description><![CDATA[The identity of a turtle spotted on July 17th, 2009 on the banks of the River Dodder in Dublin has been identified as Trachemys scripta scripta (Yellow-bellied Slider). The native range of this species is from south-eastern Virginia to northern Florida in the U.S. but it is commonly sold in the pet-trade in Europe.
