Mollusc Ireland is an exciting first project between the Centre for Environmental Data and Recording (CEDaR) in Northern Ireland and the National Biodiversity Data Centre in the Republic. A wealth of information on Ireland’s mollusc fauna, including species profiles, photographs, and distribution maps, is presented on this website. Using state-of-the-art web services, the website is the result of close collaboration between the two centres with CEDaR hosting and producing the site and the National Biodiversity Data Centre providing the mapping live from their databases. This brings huge added-value to the project by harnessing the strengths of both centres. Molluscs are an important group as many are listed as protected under the EU Habitats Directive. Therefore, easy access to information on these animals is vital for conservation planners, ecological consultants, and conservationists. The National Biodiversity Data Centre look forward to working again with CEDaR on further projects of this kind. Mollusc Ireland can be found at http://www.habitas.org.uk/molluscireland/.
