National Databases and Surveys

The Centre will continue its work to expand the national biodiversity database and mapping system to facilitate access to datasets created by state agencies, researchers, non-governmental organisations and voluntary groups. Enhanced internet access  to the national biodiversity database will be developed and interpretation of the data will be promoted to facilitate decision-making and expanding our knowledge base on Ireland’s biodiversity. By so doing it will bring significant added value to existing data holdings and provide a valuable resource for future work to draw upon. Enhancing functionality of the mapping system will be of direct relevance to the work of the local authorities with regard to strategic planning and development control.
