Climate Change
An overriding justification for the collection of selected biodiversity data is the provision of information for decision makers on the effects of climate change. To provide data on the impacts of climate change in this regard, three specific initiatives will be delivered.
a. Nature’s Clock – an online phenology network to track seasonal changes as organisms respond to climate change developed in partnership with Trinity College and the Environmental Protection Agency.
b. Irish Butterfly Monitoring Scheme -A national monitoring programme to track changes in butterfly populations .
c. National Moth Monitoring Scheme – a national moth monitoring programme based on daily samples taken from fixed traps (Rothamstead Traps) at locations around the country.
