Dragonfly Spotter

This is our entry-level scheme for dragonfly and damselfly recording. We encourage anybody and everybody to submit their casual sightings of dragonflies and damselflies, accompanied by a photograph to enable validation, via our app or by clicking on the Dragonfly Spotter tab above.

Casual records from recognised recorders on our Dragonfly Recorder and Dragonfly Monitor schemes may be submitted without photographs but are still subject to validation.

Dragonfly Recorder

This scheme is for those familiar with and/or trained in dragonfly and damselfly survey techniques and identification. Dragonfly Recorders must conduct a minimum of two surveys in at least one freshwater site across the Island of Ireland. One survey must be completed in May or June, and a second survey must be completed between July and early September.

You may survey as many sites as you wish but ask that two surveys be completed at each site within the given periods. During each survey you are also required to fill in a short habitat quality questionnaire.
